Inset Kitchen Cabinets Vancouver

Timeless, furniture-quality inset cabinetry — hand-built in our Vancouver workshop with solid-wood face frames, premium plywood boxes, Blum hardware and a removable face-frame system designed to keep your kitchen beautiful for decades.

What Are Inset Kitchen Cabinets?

Inset cabinets are the most refined style of cabinetry there is. Instead of doors and drawer fronts sitting on top of the cabinet box, they are fitted inside a solid-wood face frame — flush, with a slim, even reveal all the way around.

The result is a kitchen with the clean lines and built-in feel of fine furniture. It is the look you see in classic English kitchens, heritage homes and high-end custom builds.

Because every door and drawer front must fit its opening to within a fraction of a millimetre, inset cabinetry demands a higher level of craftsmanship than standard overlay cabinets. Precise measuring, controlled fabrication and careful installation are essential — and they are exactly what HCH Cabinet & Millwork specializes in.

Inset cabinetry is the right choice if you want:

  • A refined, furniture-quality kitchen with clean, symmetrical lines
  • Traditional craftsmanship combined with modern soft-close hardware
  • Custom colours, door profiles and design details
  • A kitchen built specifically for your home — not adapted from stock sizes

Solid-Wood Face Frames

Every HCH inset face frame is made from solid hardwood. Solid wood gives the frame the strength, stability and finish quality that inset cabinetry requires — a frame that stays straight and square so doors stay perfectly aligned year after year.

Frames are milled to your chosen profile and finished in any custom colour, natural clear coat or stain to match the rest of the kitchen. Whether your style is traditional, transitional or contemporary, we build every frame to consistent proportions and precisely sized openings.

The HCH Removable Face-Frame System

Inset kitchens are beautiful — but with conventional construction, they are hard to repair. We have designed a smarter way to build them.

In a traditional inset cabinet, the face frame and many visible finished surfaces are permanently glued to the cabinet box and finished as one piece. If a frame or panel is ever chipped, scratched or damaged, the only fix is sanding and spraying inside your home — bringing dust, odour and days of disruption into an occupied kitchen.

Our system separates the finished parts from the structure. HCH inset cabinets use removable solid-wood face frames and separately applied finished panels. The visible components are engineered so they can be carefully unfastened when needed.

If a face frame, door or finished panel is damaged, we remove just that component, bring it back to our workshop, repair and refinish it in our spray booth to factory quality, then reinstall and adjust it — while the cabinet box stays exactly where it is.

Workshop-Quality Repairs

Damaged parts are refinished in our spray booth, not sanded in your kitchen.

Minimal Disruption

No dust, odour or refinishing crews inside your home.

Replace One Part, Not the Cabinet

Individual frames and panels can be swapped without touching the box.

Built to Be Serviced

The cabinet structure is protected during every repair — for the life of the kitchen.

Removable Finished Panels & Premium Plywood Boxes

Removable finished panels

Decorative end panels, exposed side panels and other finished components are also made as separately applied pieces. If a panel is scratched or damaged, it can be removed, refinished or replaced at our workshop and reinstalled — without replacing the cabinet. This modular approach extends the life of your kitchen and keeps future repairs practical and affordable.

Premium plywood cabinet boxes

The beauty of an inset kitchen begins with the frame, but its strength depends on what is behind it. Our boxes are built from premium-grade plywood chosen for strength, moisture resistance and long-term stability — a dependable foundation for the frames, doors, drawers, hardware and countertops that rest on it.

Premium Blum Hardware

Because inset doors and drawer fronts operate inside precisely sized openings, hardware quality matters more than in any other cabinet style. We fit every inset kitchen with the same premium Blum hardware we use across all our custom projects:

  • Blum Movento under-mount, full-extension drawer slides
  • Soft-close drawers and Blum soft-close hinges
  • Fine three-way door and drawer-front adjustment for perfect reveals
  • Covered by Blum’s applicable lifetime warranty

Precise adjustment keeps every door and drawer operating smoothly, quietly and consistently — and lets us dial in reveals that stay even across the whole kitchen.

Inset Cabinets — Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between inset and overlay cabinets?

Overlay doors sit on top of the cabinet box and cover the frame. Inset doors sit inside a face frame, flush with its front surface, showing a slim, even reveal around every door and drawer. Inset requires far more precision to build, which is why it is considered the premium option.

Are inset cabinets more expensive?

Yes — inset cabinetry typically costs more than overlay because of the solid-wood face frames, the tighter tolerances and the additional fitting and finishing work involved. Our free consultation includes a customized quotation for your project.

Do inset cabinets have less storage space?

The face frame reduces the opening slightly compared to a frameless cabinet, but with careful design the difference is minor. We plan drawer sizes, pull-outs and interior fittings to make full use of every cabinet.

Will inset doors rub or stick with Vancouver’s humidity?

Wood moves with the seasons, which is why we use stable solid-wood frames, premium plywood boxes and Blum hardware with precise adjustment. Reveals are set to allow for seasonal movement, and our removable system makes any future adjustment simple.

Can I get inset cabinets in a painted finish?

Absolutely. Painted inset Shaker is one of the most popular looks we build. Every finish is sprayed in our workshop for a smooth, durable result.

What happens if a door or panel gets damaged later?

With the HCH removable face-frame system, the affected door, frame or panel is removed and refinished at our workshop — no sanding or spraying inside your home — then reinstalled and adjusted.

Built for Today. Designed for the Future.

An inset kitchen should be more than a beautiful first impression. It should be accurately built, effortless to use and designed with its long-term care in mind.

At HCH Cabinet & Millwork, we preserve the timeless look of inset cabinetry while introducing a more serviceable way to build it. Solid-wood removable face frames, separately applied finished panels, premium plywood boxes and Blum hardware come together in a kitchen that is elegant, functional and easier to maintain for years to come.
